Nintendo DS Vs Nintendo DSi – OLD VS NEW

After selling more than 100 million units of the famous portable gaming console Nintendo DS, the Kyoto based giant Nintendo decided to raise the bar once again, and promote a new and improved version – Nintendo DSi. Good news to start with – all Nintendo DS games will work on the DSi as well, the developer took care of the compatibility nicely.

Nintendo DSi doesn’t look so much different than the DS version. It is a bit thinner and slightly longer (measurements are the following: it’s 5.4 inches wide, 2.9 long and 0.74 wide) and its finish is not glossy but matte. This last thing is very nice, because you will avoid leaving fingerprints and having stains all over the screen.

So far few colours have been announced (we are cheering for the black and turquoise options) and the screens remain highest quality, with backlit and bigger dimensions – 3.25 inches. Brightness is better now, too. Like in the DS version, bottom display remains a touch screen so that gamers can use their fingers or one of two stylus pens included, to navigate and control the action. Nintendo DSi has a microphone in the centre, which can record your voice, sounds, and game action and interaction.

As you know Nintendo DS features card slot at the back Nintendo DSi has that too (for game cartridges) and also Secure Disital or SD memory on the right, to store music or your photographs. Built in speakers on your DSi can be used for listening songs, which can be customized with attractive visualization (entertaining screensavers).

Music can also be combined with few fun digital game-alike diversions, or enriched with filters or by adding your vocals you can previously record. Karaoke style on your hand held console is the new hype, and Nintendo DSi has it.
GBA or the Game Boy Advance slot is going to history. Those who buy DSi cannot be able to play their GBA favourites, but other great features should ease their pain.

Nintendo Dsi unlike its previous versions has 2 cameras, one points at the gamer and other in the opposite direction. Snap noise when you take pictures is always present and cannot be disabled, but you actually get used to it after a while.

You save your pictures on an SD card, and you can even crop them, edit them, add effects etc. there is however one little downside – resolution of your photos is quite bad, only 500×500 pixels, so there’s not much you can do with them except watching or showing to your friends.

You will be pleased to know that Wi-Fi is built in so you can play online and communicate with fellow players or even go to an online shop for users – Dsi Shop. That is a real treat and amazing feature – you can download add ons, games, demos and applications etc. If you have a wireless internet connection, even better – you can wirelessly download features you like and new things. (That is really exclusivity, because it is possible for the first time in the 20 years history of portable games).

Battery is lithium ion, and depending on the mode and brightness, it can last for 19 hours, with maximum charging, which is approx 3 hrs.

If Nintendo DS was our first crush, Nintendo DSi is definitely becoming our true love.
