When it comes to game consoles, technical equipment or gadgets these days, ads are similar, prices are similar, sometimes even the names and colours are similar, so it can be difficult to decide what to purchase. That’s why we are here to help you. Nintendo DSi or Sony PSP – that is the question!
The Box
Once you open the box of the gadget, what will you see? Well Nintendo DSi has some items with extra value, but you still won’t receive everything for full pleasure. Manual, console and a power connector will arrive to your door, and a bit longer stylus. You will find the headphones missing (and for instance, they are indeed part of the DS Lite pack). What comes as a cool bonus is a powerful stronger on board software. As for internal storage – count on 256 MB. What is slightly silly is the fact you don’t receive any kind of case (not even a wrist wrap). That is one thing that can and should be easily improved; it is a small touch, but a great deal for consumers.
Sony PSP has a console, power cord, software which is also onboard, but same negative reviews, since it is also missing both headphones and any kind of protective or carrying case.
Multimedia
DSi features music player, fully supportive of MP3. With the option of playing music from any SD card. That is a great improvement. Music software also has a great visualisation (if you are into that) and there are 14 different patterns available. But that’s not all. DSi has got 2 cameras! (One points at, and the other points away from the user). You save pictures on SD card, and can also crop them, edit, add effects etc. One downside, resolution of your photos is horrible 500×500 pixels, so there’s not much you can do with them. If you are into playing with your photos, keep in mind that Nintendo beats Sony when it comes to editing images.
Games
Currently it’s a bumpy road for PSP, but they are announcing few amazing titles for this and next year. DSi is more prominent so far, but as far as the gaming goes, it is a tie. One game set has already announced and published great games, and the other one is working on it, threatening to outshine the competition in few next months.
And the verdict – well, considering the price, performances and the pros and cons, we would stick to Sony PSP for now.
