The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 for brevity, is back after a few years of absence and a couple of years of lackluster exhibitions. And it is back in a big way! With Steven Spielberg, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and Hideo Kojima opening the show for the Microsoft Xbox 360, the other players in the current console war were forced to play catch up. Nintendo isn’t one to disappoint. As of this writing, the company has just finished its presentation and has unraveled some big – nay, HUMONGOUS – titles for the Nintendo Wii console.

Should you be excited?

You bet!

Imagine, opening Nintendo’s trade exhibition is one that is destined to be the biggest selling title for the fourth quarter of 2009: Super Mario Bros. 4D. Yes, the fourth installment of the franchise that was last seen on the NES is coming to the Nintendo Wii console! Here’s the clincher, or the game breaker if you will: Super Mario Bros. 4D will prominently feature a 4-player cooperative play. It is a game mechanic that is similar to the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords for the Gameboy Advance. However, 4-player coop isn’t a mere option in this blockbuster title for the Nintendo Wii console. It is how the game works!
One would think that if the long awaited sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. franchise opened the show for the Nintendo Wii console, then bigger announcements are in store for the company’s flagship product, right?

Exactly!

One of the most impressive demonstrations during Nintendo’s time on the stage in the new Wii Remote Plus, an add-on for the original Wiimote that will significantly increase the accuracy of the device’s motion sensing capabilities. One of the major criticisms for the remote that comes with the original Nintendo Wii console is the oftentimes inaccurate – and even non-responsive – motion sensing functionality. This has been completely remedied by the Wii Remote Plus.

Perhaps, the number one victim of the rather “broken” state of the original Wiimote is Ubisoft’s Red Steel, a launch title for the Nintendo Wii console that had all the makings of a hit but bad motion-sensing destroyed the game. Now, Ubisoft strikes back and strikes hard with Red Steel 2 that can only be played with the Wii Remote Plus. This time, Ubisoft promises an experience that will not disappoint the most avid gamer.

Wii Sports, the title that comes bundled with the Nintendo Wii console, is getting a sequel. Entitled Wii Sports Resort, the new installment will feature events like basketball, archery, kayaking, and even skydiving, among others. Utilizing the Wii Remote Plus, Nintendo promises that you won’t be shooting free throws like Shaquille O’Neal.

As for peripherals, the company shocked the audience with the announcement of the Wii Vitality Sensor, an attachment for the Wiimote which is placed on the user’s finger to read his pulse and calculate a lot of things that deal with the inner workings of his body.

Just think about the many gaming possibilities such a device can provide for the Nintendo Wii console!
The company reserved the biggest announcement for last, however. For the first time ever, a second 3D Mario game will appear on the same console. Indeed, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is coming for the Nintendo Wii console!

With all these developments over at E3 2009, diehard Nintendo fans have reasons to celebrate. The Nintendo Wii console is poised to continue its dominance of the sales charts in the foreseeable future.

“How much will the Nintendo Wii cost?”

The question sounds weird in this day and age, almost 3 years since the release of the said console, and almost just as much time the product has dominated the sales charts. Surely, most people know how much the system costs these days, right?

If someone’s living in a cave somewhere and doesn’t know the answer to the question “how much will the Nintendo Wii cost,” then I’ll provide the answer right now: $249.99 SRP.

The reason why a lot of people are asking “how much will the Nintendo Wii cost” is because of recent announcements during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2009 about the console’s future. With a spate of blockbusters coming its way, many people are actually afraid that the console will increase its price to capitalize on the surge in demand that is sure to come in the next few months.

As if there’s no longer a Nintendo Wii shortage these days.

So, what are these E3 2009 announcements that have turned the video gaming world on its head and have made even the most avid Nintendo fans worried about how much will the Nintendo Wii cost? There are many announcements, but here are the top 3.

Just a reminder before proceeding to the list: fasten your seatbelt please.

1. Super Mario Bros. 4D. The true sequel to the NES originals. Super Mario Bros. 4D is coming to the Wii. This time, however, the game play will require a 4-player cooperative mechanic. It’s still the same Super Mario Bros. we have always loved, however, which is enough reason to get excited about this game.

2. Super Mario Galaxy 2. Never in the history of video games has a single console seen two 3D Mario games. That’s about to change with the pending release of Super Mario Galaxy 2, the sequel to the title that, many believe, brought back people’s faith on Mario games.

3. Project M. Many industry experts have long known about Project M, the codename for the title that is being developed by Team Ninja. Team Ninja, of course, is headed by Tomonobu Itagaki. They are known for creating and developing the games under the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden franchises. Guess what? Project M is not a new intellectual property for Nintendo.
The “M” in Project M stands for – you guessed – METROID! As of E3 2009, Project M is no more. It has assumed a formal title, Metroid: Other M and is poised to tell the story of a younger Samus in either a prequel to the games we know or an alternate reality to the universe we have become accustomed to. This title alone would be enough to force anyone to ask “how much will the Nintendo Wii cost, especially after the announcement of a new Metroid game?”
